The South African Preserve Championships
Showcasing Excellence in the South African Agri-Processing Sector
The purpose of the South African Preserve Championships, launched by Agri-Expo in 2025, is to acknowledge and reward exceptional quality while offering a platform to showcase outstanding preserved products.
With this new competition, the spotlight is on preserved products, whether fruit or vegetables. An expert panel of judges adjudicates these products using a blind tasting method with strict procedures, followed by an independent audit.
The competition’s objectives are to recognise top-quality preserved products, highlight the importance of preserved produce, and provide marketing opportunities for entrepreneurs. Additionally, the competition aims to also educate the public, help the industry grow, offer an alternative to food waste by preserving fruit and vegetables, and celebrate excellence in this field.
Susina Jooste, the championships’ chief judge, expressed her enthusiasm for the competition’s debut. “The championship is about knowledge sharing, sustainability, economic growth, waste reduction, raising industry standards, and inspiring the next generation of entrepreneurs.”
